African Countries with the Most Natural Resources

Africa is one of the top continents in the world that is blessed with lots of natural resources. The continent has 30% of all the mineral resources in the world including cobalt, uranium, diamonds, and gold, as well as significant oil and gas reserves. Africans do export these resources to other nations who then sell the finished products back to them. That is one of the main reasons for poverty on the continent, but that’s a topic for another article. Here, we’re going to show you the African countries with the most natural resources.

Nigeria

Nigeria is one of the West African countries that have natural resources in abundance. The country has thirty-six states; most of which produce natural resources in abundance. The natural resources found in Nigeria include petroleum, arable land, iron ore, natural gas, coal, tin, niobium, limestone, zinc, and lead. Petroleum is the primary natural resource generated in Nigeria. Some of these natural resources are exported to other countries in exchange for other resources. Nigeria is also the largest economy in Africa with a diverse culture and a huge population that powers a massive market.

Democratic Republic Of Congo

The Democratic Republic of Congo is an African country with the wealthiest deposit of natural resources. The country has lots of natural resources, including timber, cobalt, oil, tin ore, coltan, gold, copper, and diamond. Unfortunately, most of the country's natural resources are being stolen from them due to a lack of good governance. Congo Tantalum is a rare and highly valuable metal because of its application in electronics and the production of mobile phones. As of the writing of this article, one kilogram of the Tantalum metal is worth 162 U.S. dollars.

Ghana

Ghana is one of the wealthiest countries in West Africa due to its numerous natural resources. Ghana's natural resources are bauxite, manganese, salt, gold, diamonds, and silver. These natural resources serve as a form of employment for people, a source of revenue generation and infrastructural revenue, and raw materials for industries. We must mention that Ghana is also a top leader in the production of Cocoa, used in making several food items the most popular of which is chocolate. Ghana’s influence in the global cocoa market is growing by the year, but the unfair laws of international trade are reducing the country’s capacity to increase the price and make a huge profit from its cocoa produce. Ghana, like other African countries, needs to start thinking about selling finished goods rather than raw materials.

Namibia

Namibia is located on the south-western Atlantic coast of the African continent. The country is another African country with abundant resources. Natural resources such as diamonds, copper, lead, salt, uranium, sulphur, zinc, and tantalite are found in Namibia. Namibia is the world's fourth-place supplier of uranium. The country is also one of the world’s most important countries for mining diamonds.

Botswana

Botswana has iron ore, copper, coal soda ash, nickel, potash, silver, and diamonds. Diamond is the country's primary form of economic growth. Most of the natural resources in Botswana are exported to other countries to generate revenue for the country. Several towns and settlements are built in Botswana, majorly for natural mining resources.

Tanzania

Although Tanzania is rich in wildlife land, agriculture, and forestry, the country has an abundance of natural resources. Tanzania has natural resources like coal, diamond, natural gas, gold, iron, nickel, uranium, silver, and tanzanite. The country is the only supplier of the rare gem called tanzanite in the world. Tanzania is the fourth most prosperous country in Africa in terms of gold.

Niger

Niger is another West African country where natural resources are found.  The natural resources in Niger include gold, phosphates, petroleum, gypsum, salt, uranium, iron ore, coal, molybdenum, and tin. Most of the natural resources found in Niger are exported in return for revenue generation. The country’s economy also relies on natural resources.
